Effective tips to make short notes
Here are some of my effective tips for making short notes. This can be helpful to a school going student, to a college going student, to an aspirant preparing for any type of competitive exam.
- Use the language in which you’re comfortable with. You can also simplify the language as per your understanding but ensure that the meaning remains the same.
- Use different types of stationary if possible, especially for headings, important formulas, pointers, etc. Also feel free to use diagrams, tables, doodles in your notes. In all, try to make the notes fun to read and memorize.
- Write the summary of the page on the top or the bottom of the same page, preferably on the top. Keep it as short and as simple as possible. It could be a quick preview of the whole page in just 2- 3 lines so that it is easier to revise if there’s a time constraint.
- Make sure to leave 1- 2 pages at the end of the notes of every chapter. Say later if you learn new short tricks, tricky questions, some more important pointers related to the chapter, you can easily add that with the rest of the notes and have a well gathered set.
- The goal is to make brief notes so only include:
- Definitions
- Formulas
- Important concepts
- Tricks & Tips for question solving
- Silly or frequent mistakes
- Concepts related to previous year questions
- Most importantly write only when you actually understand something. Because writing without understanding is the same as driving without the knowledge of directions.
- Revise your notes constantly because by doing so you can easily reform the notes in lesser pages. On reading and revising you’ll know what’s unnecessary and you can easily strike it out making your notes much more compact.
Do keep these points in mind to make your notes precise, fun-to-read, simple & easy to learn. Make learning fun!
