What is the IIT JAM exam: Joint Admission test for Masters is a common admission test conducted every year for admission into Master of Science and other post-graduate science programs at Indian Institutes of Technology and also PhD integrated programs, Indian Institute of Science and National Institutes of Technology, organized by alternating institutes every year.  

The IIT JAM exam is conducted for 7 subjects- Biotechnology, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Geology.

 

When is IIT JAM conducted: Usually conducted in the month of Feb, the expected date for IIT JAM 2023 is 12 Feb, 2023

 

Exam Pattern: A computer based test with 60 questions total marks 100 comprising three sections 

A(30 MCQ – 10 ques/ 1 mark and 20 ques/ 2 marks), 

B(10 MSQ/ 2 marks) and 

C(20 NAT – 10 ques/ 1 mark and 10 ques/2 marks). 

Time duration – 180 mins, in English only.

Negative marking will be applicable only for section A i.e for each wrong answer in the 1 mark question, 1/3 marks will be deducted and for 2 mark questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted

 

Syllabus for  IIT JAM (Mathematics): Sequences and Series of Real Numbers, Functions of Two Real Variables, Differential Equations, Vector Calculus, Group Theory, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis

 

Number of Applicants: 12716 (13000 approx.) in 2022

 

Cutoffs: General22.91, OBC(NCL), EWS – 20.62 and SC/ST/ PwD – 11.46 in 2022
