How to Improve Your Speed and Accuracy in IIT JAM Mathematics Exam
During exam time two most important factors are speed and accuracy. Remember that high speed with less accuracy is the most dangerous thing; it can ruin your score. If you’re not so fast in attempting the questions then always try to ensure that you attempt every question with your maximum (100%) accuracy. This will increase your chances of qualifying the overall cut off of the exam.
Accuracy is more important than speed – So, don’t make wild guesses in trying to attempt maximum questions & don’t focus on the number of attempts. Mark only those questions that you’re sure of. It makes a huge difference.
Be wise in selecting questions – One needs to be very careful while attempting the question paper. It is safer to leave a question than to attempt it and get it wrong. Don’t get stuck on a single question, it will reduce your speed so if you are not able to solve it within 1 minute then move on.
Don’t be in a hurry, think twice before marking any answer – In online exams, some questions are meant to trap the students and kill their time. So read the question carefully to understand what is required and see the options with great concentration
No Fluking – Fluke only when you’ve at least some idea of the topic you’re dealing with. Marking the answer just for the sake of attempting a question is not at all advisable. It can attract negative marks which will directly impact the total score.
Practice, Practice, Practice – Practice is the key factor in improving your speed as well as accuracy. The more you practice, the more you improve. Make sure to try out different, unique & tricky questions because the biggest win in an exam is when the same type questions appear that you practiced. So, practice more and more questions!

Work on your Calculations – Dedicate separate time to enhance your calculations. You can learn Vedic Mathematics, Tables, Fractions & Percentages to do faster calculations. This can save a lot of time in calculation intensive questions that’re usually kept to break the speed of an examinee.
Don’t Panic – Panicking & Stressing over a question can adversely affect your speed and accuracy in attempting questions further asked in the paper. You must know that it’s completely fine not being able to attempt a few questions. In competitive exams like IIT JAM it’s not at all important to mark all the questions asked. You can definitely mark it & revisit it after solving other questions, this’ll boost your confidence and also calm you down.
